Description

SeeAbility’s Woodlands, in Horley, Surrey, is a rehabilitative residential service for seven visually impaired adults with additional disabilities seeking lifestyle enhancing opportunities and to develop their level of independence.

Our Service
Visual impairment rehabilitation, social inclusion and quality of life are fundamental to the quality service we provide.
We adopt a person-centred approach to support each individual to identify their own abilities, needs and preferences. After an initial assessment period, a tailored support plan is created which meets individual needs, reflects personal choices and works towards achieving personal outcomes.  To ensure individual control, the plan is regularly reviewed with each person and their advocates to ensure it is responsive to changing needs and wishes.

Our enabling support includes:
  • A 24 hour service, including night-time on-call emergency support
  • Continued learning through practice of daily living and social skills
  • Opportunities to build confidence and encouragement to make informed choices and take assessed risks
  • Accessing a range of day activities and learning opportunities
  • Individual involvement in the development of the service
  • Actively encouraging greater independence, exploring and planning future needs and requirements
  • Accessing community health care services
  • Maintaining and developing relationships with family and friends

At Home
Woodlands is a fully furnished two storey home, providing a communal lounge, kitchen and dining room downstairs, together with three bedrooms. Upstairs are four further bedrooms, all bedrooms have en-suite facilities.
The interior uses colour and texture contrasts in décor and furnishings, combined with tactile information, and specialist equipment designed to enhance orientation for people with a visual impairment.
Outside, there is a large patio area, an extensive sensory garden and activity studio.

Teamwork
Our specialist service is provided by a highly trained and dedicated staff team. Their professional expertise in visual impairment combined with other disabilities is drawn from diverse backgrounds bringing a wealth of experience.
