Hopewell

Description

Hopewell House is a registered residential care-home for nine people with intermediate mental health needs plus one Intermediate Care Bed. People living there range in age from their mid-20s to mid-60s. The house is a listed, semi-detached, four-storey building in a residential area. It has ten single bedrooms plus shared living areas, laundry facilities and a kitchen. There is a large back garden.

The aim of the project is to offer each resident the level of support determined by a jointly agreed development plan. Staff review these regularly to ensure that they remain appropriate to residents' needs.

Residents take part in the cooking, shopping, cleaning and gardening and also help with the recruitment and selection of new staff and in assessing potential new residents.

The staff team includes a Project Manager, Deputy Project Manager, three Senior Social Care Workers, four Social Care Workers and two Social Care Workers who cover waking night shifts. We also employ a part-time cleaner who looks after the communal areas. Residents clean their own rooms with assistance where needed.

The house is within easy walking distance of Guildford town centre and the main line railway station. Guildford is an historic town set in beautiful countryside that offers nature trails and walks. The town itself offers a wide range of leisure facilities, including a multi-screen cinema, theatres, bowling alley, gyms, and even a castle!

There are several local day-centre/drop-in services offering a range of activities. A good range of adult education courses is also available, in subjects from basic literacy to crafts and languages.
