Description
Wolverton Gardens is a registered home; in the form of a bungalow situated ten minutes walk from the town centre of Horley. It is home to four ladies, with a current vacancy for a fifth service user.
Wolverton Gardens is a home for people with learning disabilities and behaviours that may challenge the service.
The accommodation features a lounge dining area, kitchen, utility room, and two bathrooms (one with a shower, the other with a bath). There is a third toilet and five adequately sized bedrooms - each decorated to the individuals’ choice and preference. The rear of the bungalow hosts a well kept and attractive garden, with a small patio area, complete with patio doors opening into the lounge.
Location
18 Wolverton Gardens is situated ten minutes walk from Horley town centre and fifteen minutes walk from the local train station and nearby supermarket. The home is only five minutes drive from Gatwick airport.
A Needs Led Service
Wolverton Gardens aim is to provide a ‘needs led’ service, empowering each individual to exercise choice and control over their own lives; with a strong emphasis on developing skills and independence. Staff support Service Users to meet their physical, psychological, social and health needs through the person centred planning system. Service Users are invited to take part in monthly house meetings with the staff team.
Social Activities
The ladies at Wolverton Gardens each have individual activity schedule with ensured support from the team to access individual planned archives.
The ladies benefit from reflexology, walks out, shopping, meals out and line dancing. The staff support the Service Users on a holiday each year, which is paid for in their accommodation and care charges.
Service Users are supported to practice their religious beliefs if they choose to do so. Service Users are welcomed and supported to have visitors to the home, and at any time are free to have overnight guests if they so wish, as long as it does not infringe the rights of the other Service Users.
Privacy, Dignity, Choice and Confidence
These human rights are respected at all times. Each Service User has their own bedroom which is of adequate size to accommodate visitors and hold care reviews if they so wish.
Local Services
All Service Users at Wolverton Gardens are registered with the local GP. All receive treatment for chiropody, optical and dentistry needs. Secondary referrals e.g. psychology and physiotherapy, can be obtained through the GP. Nursing needs are provided for by the district nurse, through the individuals’ GP.
Operational Policies
In the home there is a detailed guide to Prospect’s Operational Policies and Procedures followed by all staff members in the home. Examples of policies held within this file are Fire Safety Policy, Protection of Vulnerable Adults Policy and Health and Safety Policy.
All electrical appliances are tested on a yearly basis and all safety equipment is checked on a three monthly basis by contractors. Fire evacuations are held every three months.
All staff receive mandatory training which is regularly updated accordingly.
Staff Team
Wolverton Gardens’ staff team offers 10 full time staff and one part time staff member. The team includes Home Manager, Deputy Manager, 3 Senior Support Workers and a Part Time Support Worker. The team brings a variety of experience to the home, and 50% of staff have / or are working towards the NVQ Qualification ranging from levels 2 to 4.
The Home Manager has a number of years experience, he is currently working towards his RMA award.
The Deputy Manager also has a number of years experience in working with people with learning disabilities and is currently working towards NVQ level 3 and has a GNVQ.
The home is staffed 24 hours a day. Three staff each morning and each afternoon, and at night 1 sleep-in staff and 1 working night staff. A 24 hour on-call system is provided by Prospect.
Prospect Housing and Support Services is a charitable organisation based in Surrey and the London Borough of Sutton. Prospect provides housing and care services to people with disabilities and their carers. Prospect’s mission is to enable individuals who have a disability to realise their potential and to exercise choice and control over their own lives.
